Terms and Conditions
The Intertidal – Event Terms & Conditions
Last updated: March 2026
By entering or participating in The Intertidal (“the Event”), you agree to these Terms & Conditions. Please read them carefully.
1. The Event
The Intertidal is a point‑to‑point coastal running event in Jersey, routed through intertidal, tidal‑affected, and environmentally sensitive areas. The route, timing, and conditions are influenced by tides, weather, and natural terrain. Participation is entirely at your own risk.
2. Eligibility
You must meet the minimum age requirement stated at the time of entry and be physically fit to participate. You confirm that you have no medical condition that would make participation unsafe. The organisers reserve the right to refuse entry or remove any participant deemed unfit to continue.
3. Entry & Registration
Entries are limited and accepted on a first‑come, first‑served basis. Entries are personal and non‑transferable except where an official transfer process is offered.
4. Refunds, Deferrals & Transfers
Entries are non‑refundable except where explicitly stated. Deferrals or transfers may be offered at the organiser’s discretion and must be requested before published deadlines. See the event FAQ for the latest information.
5. Route, Timing & Event Changes
The organisers may modify the route, timings, or format of the Event for safety, environmental, or operational reasons. No refunds will be issued in these circumstances.
6. Safety & Personal Responsibility
The Event involves inherent risks including uneven terrain, tidal movement, weather exposure, and remote locations. Participants are responsible for their own safety, navigation, and decision‑making at all times. Marshal’s are provided for runner safety and must be listened to at all times.
7. Environmental Protection
Participants must stay within marked routes, event boundaries and avoid damaging marine life, rock pools, vegetation, or wildlife. Environmental damage may result in immediate disqualification. Details of this will be provided closer to the event.
8. Conduct & Disqualification
The organisers reserve the right to disqualify or remove any participant who behaves dangerously, fails to follow instructions, or acts in a manner likely to bring the Event into disrepute.
9. Medical Assistance
By entering, you consent to receive medical treatment if required. Minor issues may be handled by participants and event marshals. A designated event medical service is available but due to the location of the event, access for ambulances is challenging. Emergency services will only be able to attend to the most critical issues and it’s expected any such support will have delays.
10. Live Tracking & Communications
Live tracking devices are used as a safety aid. Tracking does not guarantee rescue and mobile coverage is not assured however participants moving outside of the boundaries may be called and disqualified at the race director’s discretion.
11. Headphone Policy
The use of bone conductor headphones is allowed, but NO OTHER types of headphones/earphones will be allowed at this event. Anyone seen wearing headphones/earphones (excluding bone conductor headphones) may be disqualified from the race. We know this sounds mean, but your safety is our priority. Our marshals may need to inform you of urgent weather changes such as fog, route amendments or anything critical to your safety and success. Also, this follows England Athletics’ guidelines.
12. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the organisers accept no liability for injury, illness, death, or loss or damage to personal property arising from participation.
13. Media & Photography
Participants grant permission for photographs and video footage to be used for event promotion and reporting.
14. Data Protection
Personal data will be processed in accordance with applicable data protection laws. Full details are available in the Event Privacy Policy.
15. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Jersey and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Jersey courts.
16. Event Cancellation Policy
The organisers reserve the right to cancel, postpone, or materially alter the Event due to safety, environmental, weather, tidal conditions, or circumstances beyond their control. Deferral to a later date or next year will be considered and refunds will be provided based on the situation and availability of the participant. If the Event is started but shortened or stopped early, it will be deemed to have taken place. Decisions made by the organisers are final.
