Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Intertidal challenge. If you can't find your answer here, please reach out.

The Route & Rules

Q: Do I have to visit all six landmarks?

A: Yes. Your result is validated by Token and GPS. Missing a landmark will incur a time penalty.

Q: Can I wear headphones

A: The use of bone conductor headphones is allowed, but NO OTHER types of headphones/earphones will be allowed at this event. Anyone seen wearing headphones/earphones (excluding bone conductor headphones) may be disqualified from the race. We know this sounds mean, but your safety is our priority. Our marshals may need to inform you of urgent weather changes such as fog, route amendments or anything critical to your safetey and success. Also this follows England Athletics’ guidelines.

Q: Can I run between landmarks on land and via road?

A: No. This is not in the spirit of the event and may disadvantage other competitors. The only exception to this rule is the short section on the official route from Havre de Pas to the Waterfront car park. Unless a runner is retiring from the event, immediate disqualification will occur.

Q: Is this a road race?

A: No. There is a short section of tarmac on route along the promenade, harbours and waterfront, with the majority on mixed surfaces and intertidal sections. It’s a challenge event.

Q: Do I have to visit them in order?

A: Yes. The required sequence is: Seymour Tower, Icho Tower, Green Island, Havre des Pas, Elizabeth Castle and then St Aubin's Fort. This keeps the vent consistent and fair.

Travel & Supporters

Q: Where can supporters watch?

A: See Travel and logistics for safe viewing points.

Q: Can family and friends follow the race?

A: Yes. Family and friends can follow your progress during the race via the Live GPS tracker. There will be a link provided on the website and social media in the week before the race.

Q: Is there a bag drop?

A: Yes. A bag drop facility will be provided for runners. Bags can be deposited with the event organisers at the Start and collected at the Finish. This will enable runners to change into fresh clothes for their comfort.

Tides & Timings

Q: Is there a cut-off?

A: Certain check points will have strict cut-offs. These will be enforced by the tidal window and are in place for competitor’s safety. Further details will be communicated to participants closer to the event.

Q: What happens if the tide turns while I’m out there?

A: You must prioritise safety. Retreat to a safe line and follow any race instructions. The sea always wins.

Q: How are start times decided?

A: The start window is built around low tide and confirmed close to race day based on conditions.

Entry & Admin

Q: Can I transfer my entry?

A: Due to the unique nature of this event and the complexity we don't permit transfers however you may defer to the following year or request a 75% refund up-to 90 days prior to the event.

Q: What’s the refund policy?

A: We appreciate that life sometimes gets in the way of running plans. If you’re entered in this year’s race and need to step back, a 75% refund is available up to three months before race day. Once an entry has been deferred, we’re unable to offer a refund—but we’re always grateful for your support of the event.

Results & Media

Q: Will there be results?

A: Yes. Results will be published on [RESULTS LOCATION] after validation.

Q: Will there be photos?

A: Yes, more details will be shared pre and post-event.

Kit & Safety

Q: Can I use the GPX to navigate?

A: Yes, but it’s guidance only. Conditions vary and some lines may not be safe.

Q: Is there mandatory kit?

A: Yes, the full mandatory and recommended kit list is available on the Safety page.

Q: Will there be GPS tracking for runners?

A: Yes. All runners will be provided with a tracker which must be always worn during the event. This is purely for Health and Safety reasons and will enable us to know exactly where you are on route. Additional guidance/instructions will be provided in the race information pack closer to race day.

On The Day

Q: What time should I arrive?

A: Aim for 13:00 to allow for registration, GPS fitting and briefing.
