The Intertidal route: Stay smart and run safe
Safety for The Intertidal starts with preparation.
Before arriving at the start line, make sure you are well rested, hydrated, and familiar with mandatory kit, timings, and the route.
Wearing gear you have trained in can help prevent discomfort or injury during the run.
During the race, be aware of your surroundings at all times. The course will be shared with other runners, volunteers, and event staff, so maintaining awareness helps keep everyone moving smoothly.
There will also potentially be members of the public, dog-walkers, low-water fishermen, tourists, oyster farmers, and wildlife - we share the intertidal zone and we need to respect it as such.
Follow posted signage and listen for instructions from course marshals, especially at intersections and narrow sections of the route.
Weather conditions can change quickly, so plan accordingly. If it is warm, slow your pace, drink water often, and take advantage of shaded areas. The mandatory kit specifies 500ml but 1L is a better bet and even more if you think you will need it. In cooler conditions, dress in light layers that can be removed as you warm up.
If you feel dizzy, experience pain, or simply need a break, do not hesitate to slow down or stop. Medical support will be available along the course and at the finish area. Asking for help is always the right decision. There will be other races.
Finally, remember that safety is a shared responsibility. Encourage fellow runners, be patient when passing, and respect the space of those around you.
By running smart and looking out for one another, we can make the event safe and enjoyable for everyone.
